About Project

Context
Flywheel is a collective of practitioners who solve complex digital retail challenges for Fortune 100 manufacturers, helping brands accelerate growth in an increasingly competitive commerce landscape.

Challenge
Initially engaged to formalise a limited set of colours and typography into brand guidelines, the audit revealed a larger opportunity. Flywheel’s visual identity reflected an early-stage start-up, while their expertise and client portfolio positioned them as a category leader. The brand needed to evolve to match their scale, authority, and ambition.

Strategic Approach
I identified and presented a broader rebrand opportunity to the Executive and Marketing teams, repositioning Flywheel from emerging player to leading force in digital retail growth. Central to the strategy was articulating their distinct personality: unapologetically nerdy, humbly expert, dependable, and independently minded.

Creative Solution
We developed a bold, ownable identity system supported by comprehensive yet flexible guidelines. The refreshed visual language elevated their market presence while retaining elements of heritage, including the iconic flywheel cog, ensuring continuity alongside transformation.

Impact
The rebrand shifted Flywheel’s perception from start-up to established industry authority. It strengthened internal alignment, increased executive buy-in, and provided a scalable brand platform to support continued growth and category leadership.
